Matrix ranked as joint 2nd Leading Set in Immigration: 'This multidisciplinary chambers is well known for its human rights work, but it has also developed a burgeoning immigration law practice. A QC of some note, Nicholas Blake QC is, as one interviewee put it, "great both on immigration and human rights law." "Extremely clever," he recently appeared for the asylum seeker in Secretary for Security v Prabakar, a case concerning the expulsion of a Sri Lankan asylum seeker from Hong Kong SAR to Sri Lanka where he had been tortured. Raza Husain is "one of the smartest juniors around at the moment." He is a public law practitioner specialising in human rights and immigration praised by peers for his "exceptional advocacy and paperwork." He is currently instructed in the House of Lords case of AE, relating to the Refugee Convention and internal relocation. Charlotte Kilroy is recommended as one to watch. Her work includes judicial review of decisions of the Secretary of State and damages claims for unlawful detention and assault. (Chambers & Partners - 2006)

For the last 3 years Legal 500 has ranked Matrix as the 2nd Leading Set in Immigration.  The 2005 guide awards the top position as Leading Silk to Nicholas Blake QC and also recognises Raza Husain as a Leading Junior: 'Nick Blake QC is praised by experienced immigration practitioners as 'superb' and for all-round advice retains his top tier placing as 'the leading light in the immigration field'. Junior Raza Husain, "a well-known and experienced practitioner", is a good choice for all immigration advice'.
(Legal 500 - 2005)

Matrix recommended as joint 2nd leading set in Immigration. Nicholas Blake QC was named joint 1st Leading Silk, and Raza Husain joint 1st Junior, Charlotte Kilroy is also recommended:
‘This leading human rights set is now receiving wider recognition for its immigration work, following a notable expansion in the area. A leader in human rights, Nicholas Blake QC also has enormous experience in the immigration field. His "incredibly realistic, often cautious " approach and "urbane " style makes him a favourite amongst interviewees. "He always carries it off in court wonderfully " and "understands that managing the client's expectations is half the battle ," say instructing solicitors. One interviewee even claimed that his "genius " puts him at a disadvantage, as he is "invariably smarter than those he appears before!" Of Raza Husain, one interviewee stated: "I don't know of anybody else who is so consistently excellent." Praising his superb writing skills and oral advocacy, peers highlighted his knack of spotting major points quickly. His nerve of a "showman" is coupled with "a profound knowledge of immigration and human rights law." He is involved in a number of SIAC cases and frequently appears in the appellate courts. Charlotte Kilroy is of relatively recent call, but her "bright, committed and thorough" counsel has already been noticed.' (Chambers & Partners - 2005)

“Nicholas Blake QC at Matrix Chambers remains the pre-eminent immigration silk. His leading cases include R v Secretary of State ex parte Kaur. Matrix Chambers' human rights focus is a clear strength. Members tend to act for applicants, though some also act for the Treasury Solicitor. Junior Raza Husain has a first-rate record and was junior counsel on Kaur.” (Legal 500 - 2004)
