The Chambers & Partners Guide to the Legal Profession 2006/7 recommends Matrix as a leading set in environmental law, writing that:

“Brilliant at seeing the bigger strategic picture,” Daniel Brennan QC [top ranked] ... is representing 400 Bangladeshi claimants in Sutradhar v Natural Environment Research Council, the water-poisoning litigation concerning liability for professional advice. A revered writer and academic, Philippe Sands QC  [ranked second] includes environmental advisory work amongst his areas of expertise. Last year he represented the Government of Singapore in a mediation to resolve a waste shipment dispute with Indonesia. “A star at everything he touches,” David Wolfe  [top ranked] specialises in handling judicial review challenges. Able to draw on his scientific background to grasp the issues, he appeared in the Court of Appeal last year representing residents resisting the LNG terminals at Milford Haven. Building a formidable reputation in environmental regulation, Maurice Sheridan [ranked second] led four test cases on the interrelationship between the IPPC and Landfill Directives last year....
Kate Cook joins the rankings as the result of possessing a niche environmental practice with an international slant. Previously a lawyer at DEFRA’s international and EC division, she is well experienced and provides Greenpeace with ongoing advice on illegal logging practices.

Similarly, the Legal 500 2006/7 write that:

Matrix Chambers boasts a number of star players. International specialist Philippe Sands QC is highly rated on climate change, described by solicitors as 'very responsive, a very good team player' and a one-off in his field, while Lord Brennan QC is also rated. Junior Maurice Sheridan is also recommended.

His particular area of expertise is within the nuclear and minerals context. David Wolfe was accredited as being the "darling of the public law world" and gained plaudits for his "ability to distil the essence of a case in an uncomplicated way." "Great on his feet," he was said to be a junior "head and shoulders above the rest" in the field of judicial review challenges to regulatory decisions.
